Selvom NASCARs første sanktionerede løb indeholdt prewar-vintage Ændrede kupéer - med hoppede motorer, afstivede ophæng og lette kroppe, blev Strictly Stock-divisionen, der debuterede i 1949, hurtigt hovedattraktionen og udviklede sig til sidst til dagens NASCAR NEXTEL Cup-serie.
